SLASIAC's Standing Subcommittee on Copyright Policy

The Standing Subcommittee on Copyright Policy (SSCP) results from the merging of the former Standing Committee on Copyright into the Systemwide Library and Scholarly Information Advisory Committee (SLASIAC), based on a proposal introduced at the May 3, 2006 SLASIAC meeting (meeting minutes in PDF) and endorsed by Provost and Executive Vice President Rory Hume on October 6, 2006.

On July 24, 2007, SLASIAC Chair Ellen Wartella sent an appointment letter to the members of the Subcommittee, setting out the expectations for the SSCP. As described in the current SLASIAC charge, "The Subcommittee is specifically charged with the development and maintenance of copyright-related UC policies." Chair Wartella's letter asked the Subcommittee to

  • Advise on initiating new policies and revising (or rescinding) old ones,
  • Advise on any copyright-related aspects of the scholarly information issues that come before the parent committee,
  • Identify and explore academic copyright-related issues that the subcommittee feels should be brought to SLASIAC for further discussion, and
  • Become involved in the rapidly-developing copyright consultative work currenty led by UCOP's Office of Systemwide Library Planning in response to SLASIAC's recommendations (see the November 2, 2006, SLASIAC meeting notes, Item 5.a).
